Question :
How does one generate a [Forward License] *.LIC file required for transferring a MEAP from one device to another?
Answer :
1. Navigate to the RUI of the device.
2. Navigate to SMS, and log in using the default credentials for the SMS page if prompted.
3. Navigate to [MEAP Application Management] on the left menu.
4. Find the desired MEAP to be transferred in this list, and ensure that the status displays as [Installed]. If the status shows a [Started] state, click on the corresponding [Stop] button next to this.
5. A hidden menu called [License Management] will need to be accessed. On the address bar, type in the following (case sensitive)
- 2nd Generation device: https://DeviceIPAddress:8443/sms/ForwardLicense
- 3rd Generation device: https://DeviceIPAddress:8443/sms/rls/ForwardLicense
6. Now the License Management part appears as seen below. If this hidden menu does not appear, please verify the correct URL as mentioned in the previous step.
7. Click on the MEAP that will be transferred off this machine. Note the serial number of this “old” device for reference, as it will be asked when entering this information on the Web Submission form when processing a license request.
8. Click [Disable], then [Download] in this order.
9. You will now get a *.LIC file that has “FORWARD” in the filename upon clicking [Download].
A MEAP transfer may not be processed UNTIL the *.LIC file has the word “Forward” in the filename as generated by the device.
Note: This is NOT the same *.LIC file as the file generated when simply uninstalling the MEAP from the device. The filename MUST have the word “FORWARD” automatically generated by the device or this request cannot be processed successfully.
